For as long as I can remember I have always been resourceful. As a child I would recycle my family’s greeting cards into my own greeting card creations. It took some time but eventually I realized this was the beginning stages of me becoming a graphic designer. Today I work professionally as a graphic designer but along the way I stumbled upon sewing. I, like many others, had to take a home economics class in junior high where I learned the basics of sewing. Didn’t think much of it then. It wasn’t until I was out of college and needed clothes for the working world that I really began to explore sewing. Lucky for me I had a roommate who was well versed in reading patterns and sewing to guide me through the beginning stages.
My favorite thing to do is to take scraps of fabric, or take apart an ill fitting item of clothing, and transform it in to something new. I’m not advanced enough to make my own patterns from scratch. But I do mix and match parts of patterns to achieve the look I’m envisioning. I not only sew but do some knitting, and hope to someday take up crocheting. Additionally in the future I want to start mixing in my skills as a graphic designer to make my own fabrics and embroidered images. I plan to use this blog space to document my journey and share it with the world.
